Here we are now at our center, busy preparing for our English Summer Workshop. At the start of the week, I attempted to do a little bit of homeschool while I help out with the Center’s preparation. So, I brought along all of my girl’s Writing Worksheets and Math Workbook. My daughter has ‘breezed’ through all the sheets. But since I was so busy coming up with different student activities for the workshop, I wasn’t able to fully monitor my girl. At the end of the day, I saw her worksheets and she didn’t really do them well. I know she wanted to finish everything fast so she could have more time to do other things and she knew that I was too busy to check on her like a hawk.

So, that was the last of mixing homeschool with my busyness. I feel that for her to do her best, I must be there to constantly watch her and check on her. So, today, I allowed her to just do her own thing, read some of the books from the Center’s library and help out other teacher’s with cutting and pasting.

My daughter loves her read-alouds. These are the small pocketbooks that I need to read to her( a chapter) everyday. This exposes her to great literature and a great way for us to bond too.

We have just finished the book, In Grandma’s Attic by Arleta Richardson. We both laughed together as the grandma told her funny stories and she was also able to learn a few lesson’s from the li’l girl’s experiences.

Most often, my li’l girl begs me to read an extra chapter and if I don’t give in, she usually ends up reading the chapter herself.

Here is the list of books that we have already read.

The Box Car Children

The Five True Dog Stories

A Family Under The Bridge

Dolphin Treasure

Mary on Horseback

Twenty and Ten

The Hundred Dresses

My Father’s Dragon

Johnny Appleseed

And we’re currently reading

The Llama Who Had No Pajama

The Arnold Lobel Book of Mother Goose

I Heard Good News Today

Wow! Listing these out makes me realized that we’ve already read so many books!

It’s craft time! My girl and I both love craft time. So, when our friend gave Tricia a DIY Mermaid Set, she couldn’t wait to do the project with me. I had to schedule it again on a Friday ( our Science Experiment and Baking Day) and thank God that our friend gave it to us on a Wednesday. So, the wait ( and the asking…) wasn’t too long. WHew!

So, that Friday, we didn’t have any Science Experiments but instead made the Mermaid Craft. It was indeed a lot of fun to make.

This is the Mould and Paint Set

The molds are almost ready…

Tricia’s finished products!

(oh, sorry the photo doesn’t load.. I’ll try to show next time)

The mold is reusable and we still have some plaster material left..I plan to make more of these as a souvenir for Tricia’s birthday in May.

We’ve been trying to prepare our li’l boy to go to a local school nearby. We actually tried to send him last year but he was barely 3 years old that time and I understand that he wasn’t ready for it then. One of the reasons we wanted to send him to ‘school’ was so that I could have more time to homeschool our girl and getting to play with other kids is a secondary reason. I know that doesn’t sound so reasonable, so I think that also kept us from seriously sending him to school.

Now that he’s 3.5 years old, I keep asking him whether he wants to join his sister in the local school in May and he still answers , “No!”. If, I asked him why, he would then tell me that we want to go to ‘homestool’.. LOL! Yes, that’s how he calls , ‘Homeschool’. Cute!

So, I guess, my boy’s not ready for Thai school yet. I’ll have to wait until he reaches 4 years old. For the meantime, I can homeschool him starting in May, when my girl goes to Thai school in the mornings.

One friday a month, we cancel experiment days and my girl and I go for a girl’s day out. So last Friday was our so-called girl’s day out and we both had a blast.

There are actually no ‘lessons’ involved during our girl’s day out though sometimes we bring along a writing activity or two but it’s just a time for us to bond. Last Friday, we went to B’s Sweet for a snack. She had choco shake and the Lava cake while I had Walnut Brownies and Cappucino shake. We chit chatted and she also did some sketching. So, I also had some relaxing time reading the newspaper and doing some planning. Afterwhich, we went window shopping at Central and she played with the Lego’s there too.

Oh, how I love our girl’s day outs.. my daughter and I can’t just bond together but it’s also an opportunity for me to have a short break from our routines and therefore unwind a bit. :)
