Even if I haven’t finished reading the Charlotte Mason Companion book yet, but I’ve already put into practice some of the principles in the book.

One of this is art study. I never did any art study for my daughter for the past 2 years. Yes, I let her do some art work, but I never thought of introducing to her the different artists and their artwork. After realizing the importance of this, we’ve started with our first picture study : The Four Horsemen and the Apocalypse by Albrecht Durer. ( I’m following the Art Curriculum from www.amblesideonline.com)

I printed out the artwork and let my kids look at the photo while I read to them Revelations 6:1-18. I took a bit of reactions from them based on the art they were seeing. Then I let them color the artwork. My daughter on the other hand reread the passage again, making sure that she colored the horses right.

Then, the next day I let read to them a short story about the Albrecht Durer.

Next, I will be letting my daughter draw her own interpretation of the artwork.

And for the whole week, I’ve set up our computer’s desktop with the image of the Four Horsemen and the Apocalypse. And by the way, I got a very good file of the artwork (1.5 MB) from the British Museum. You can request for any files from their artworks for free. These big files can really make a better and clearer copy when printed out.
